what did they say once you got there? Any answers?

Yeah, the piece that the strings pass through at the top, called the "nut" is worn. This causes the strings to go over a rough edge -

or a sharp corner. Need to replace that nut. It may be easies to have someone else to do it - but I'm gonna see of I can get the piece

myself. But if I get it online, it'll be like $1.00 + $5.00 shipping. With some other factors, well, I'm gonna see how much the repair

Yeah I would... especially if it's something that would cost you more with shipping added. Good thing you found out what it was.

I need to have mine looked at, either the bridge is bowing, or my neck is and it won't stay tuned longer than a day.
viridianmuse says

It's over 21 years old though, so ...it might need a little check-up. LOL
manawa says

I found a likely culprit with that is the way the strings are installed - they have to be "locked" on the peg, or the tension unwinds them
manawa says

and you have to keep tightening?
viridianmuse says

Yeah, I don't play it enough to worry about it, but when I do want to pick it up, I'd like to be able to tune it and have a few days to play

If it was your neck, and it was doing that, you would think it would eventually just snap apart. Could be if the strings are real high off

the fretboard.

I'll get it figured out one of these days. It's on my "to-do list for the far flung future...."

like when it's 31 years old. ;-)
manawa says

That's exactly why I'm trying to keep it moving with my repairs. These things sat unplayed for probably 2-3 years b/c they just needed a

little time and money. SO good luck with yours. It's nice tohave a working guitar sitting around :-)
