yeah, been calling my card company to request for waiver & as long as you use your card regularly it should be approved.

even when I have reward points I always insist to "request for waiver", ask the CS if he/she's the one who will approve, if not, ask for

how to process go, and request you get transferred to the right person. Takes extra effort but worth the savings.
