Poorly. Pretty much, the kids are allowed to take Algebra as 7th graders and Geometry *at the local hs* as 8th graders, but get no credit.
There are no math competitions, no extra exciting fun, and certainly no real-world application of the passion.
My district does it just
GingerTPLC. That really does nothing for those students.
Well, acceleration is better than nothing, but it's not *all* that should happen for some of the kids. Some could use just the competions.
Some could use just the acceleration.
Some NEED both options and more!
thanks for the info; i am looking for a really good option, but nothing yet
we are going to 7th/8th grade math ONLY this year; may have one "extension" group that meets 2-3 times per week
oh man. I like our options better. In my school, we're individualized so kids can work at their own pace. This year, we'll be bringing in
competitions and cool projects. Want to connect to professionals too. *note* I'm not like the rest of the district. I'm a charter school.
yeah, charter school kind of explains it all; this is just a "normal" public school whose math scores jr high & HS have been dropping
they are willing to sacrifice the few gifted kids for the good of the "whole"

I know what you mean!
either kids are promoted based on test out of a grade level or they do enrichments within the reg. classroom & with me (gifted facilitator)
we do some compacting (2 years in one), some self-paced, & at the elementary (through 6th at the middle) they do some "Accelerated Math"
accelerated math is a good option, but expensive and we have no $$$ this year, even though we have all the equipment already
I disagree. Accelerated Math program is BAD. It's the WORST of learning--multiple choice testing only. b.o.r.i.n.g.
i liked it because kids could move at their own pace; in a classroom where it was the ONLY option, it was better than nothing
