when I log in and see my karma dropped, I'm much less motivated to participate in this. A running total without a max would be much better.

find your motivation to converse with people elsewhere. Karma is just a fun bonus to being friendly and communicating. If you can find fun

then when you see the carma go up your just going to be more pleased for being rewarded for something you like doing

it would be nice to understand better how karma works.

as you go up in karma.. the maximum number of karma points you can earn per karma update goes down.. im at 43 but since 40 each update

thats the best it can do ...and is easy to acomplish if i post at least 1once a day and reply to others posts a few times
Huh, mine's zero now so that should be a good place to start if I really wanted to track it.
