The yarn is Opal Rainforest - not a cheap pair of socks, especially when he hardly got to wear them!

just pull out the toe, and knit the foot longer. If you want, just knit in one round of solid, bright, color before you start the new toe...

then next year you can use sharp scissors to cut out the stripe, and make them longer again!

I do that, and darn the girls' socks, AND the younger gets her sister's outgrowns... they love their handknit socks.
