Yet another reason for me to just stop eating meat completely. The first is that I'm debating on just saying so because my family pushes
WAY too friggin much of that stuff on me. Kind of sick of it and it makes me feel gross a lot of the time.
carbon footprint, yes. personal carbon emissions, no
cows and pigs are the worst producers of greenhouse gasses
plus the water and energy cost of building all those beef units vs plant units
the increased cost doesn't support the slight nutritional advantage
fuggit - maybe i should be a hippy and go veg. it's not like it'd be hard in my current situation. does it count if i still eat processed
meat? that's mostly..soy or something, right?
tasty poo. mostly super spiced things like pepperoni i like.
they make it difficult to buy things with veggiemeat alternatives when it's things like pepperoni or ground beef on a pizza.
i <3 pepperoni and ground beef on pizza
i don't think it would be hard for you at all - you didn't eat meat at all when you were living here to my recollection O__o
not very often - it's not really an essential ingredient for any meal i eat unless it's prepared for me - then it's an issue.
i LOVE singaporean pancit but it's pretty much guaranteed to have chicken in it.
and fuck, fried chicken sandwiches are good too. but i'd totally eat the veggie alternative just the same.
yeah i had the environmental impacts of the meat industry in my stats class, heh.. it's.. one of the MAIN reasons i stopped.
i'd rather hug a tree than eat a steak!
sorry veggies, people were meant to be OMNIVORES
steak tastes better than trees
yeah, but we were built to also chase down and hunt animals. not drive cars to the market and breed them like crops.
i dont *mind* meat, but i can't deny that we're horribly abusing "The Laws of Nature(TM)".
meh. meat is far from the only problem in that respect
and at least meat is nutritionally beneficial
there are lots of bad things for the environment/laws of nature that really have no ACTUAL benefit to anybody aside from convenience
like...beer!
i am so not into this green bullshit
but you hit something dead on the nail - people were meant to hunt down the aminals, not to drive to the store
DRIVING TO THE STORE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM
i am to an extent - i don't it should be about "being green" it should be about "doing wtf is right as a responsible human"
i was recycling before all this hype started up. why? because we don't HAVE to pile all of our shit in some remote land - we can reuse that
shit. it just makes sense.
the less dependent we have to be on generating brand new resources the more time we afford ourselves as a species on this planet.
otherwise - when on the trees are gone and the plankton is dead...then where do we get our air? and so on...
man i can get SO ranty about this but i really don't feel like it. i have strong opinions about what humans were 'meant' to do but it's
mostly just that. opinions.
i think Humans are meant to eat both meat and veggies. Look at our teeth. That shows you. We have flat ones for veggies things, and sharp
but look at our appendix and wisdom teeth.
back when the appendix still mattered they didn't have vitamin supplements and i doubt swiss chard was readily available to everyone lol
a combination of meat and veggies gives you the best nutrition without supplements, that's why a balanced diet generally includes meat
being a vegetarian is a choice (for some its a necessity for health reasons) but being an omnivore is hard wired and until we evolve to not
need to eat meat anymore then its gonna happen because your body needs whats in it
just because people CAN exist healthily without eating meat doesn't mean its best for everyone
because you still have to compensate for the lack of it in your diet
our bodies were not made for it. yes in some cases it was necessary if there is nothing else - to eat meat - but our digestive tract is
evidence that meat does nothing but rot in there. that's why omnivores/carnivores have shorter digestive tracts.
and if you say that those two eye teeth are enough to eat a steak, then you're insane. those are incisors for biting into things in general
we don't have a row of tiny sharp teeth like cats or dogs. we have molars.
there have been vegetarians for thousands of years in places like india. and they don't have swiss chard.
there are sufficient replacements in every continent.
for me not eating meat is partially religious/spiritual reasons which is why i don't bother arguing it.
your body does not NEED what is in meat. I don't eat supplements. i just eat a wide variety of foods in combination.
eating a little bit of meat once in a while won't kill you obviously, just like eating junk food or candy. i just prefer not to because I
believe it's healthier to avoid it completely. the long term effects and many diseases caused by eating a lot of meat over time, i'm not
also increasing risks of cancer, heart disease, etc..
but yeah, it's definitely a lifestyle choice..
but for me, the spiritual, moral, and health reasons overpower any desire for me to ever eat dead animal flesh ever again.
if only i could have that conviction. thanksgiving would destroy me!
haaahaha yeah thanksgiving, my faves are not the turkey anyway, and the stuffing my aunt makes is just as good in veggie
my faves are squash and sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and stuffing.. i could eat just those and be ecstatic
what i don't get is why some vegetarians still think its ok to eat seafood. Like that somehow doesn't count morals wise. Its still eating a
And the way those creatures are caught is cruel.
"Fish, shellfish, lean red meat, game, poultry, eggs or pulses meet your body’s protein requirements without overloading on fats."
i actually asked kina this question a couple of times - i'm sure she'll have a response for it.

as for me - because they're friggin tasty
i do feel the worst about eating shrimp though i think, i feel like im devouring entire families in ONE meal. doesnt seem fair.
but its really one of those point of views that will never be solved. Some people think they aren't meant for meat, while others will. So
its really just.. do what makes your life happy.
im sure it boils down to levels of sentience.
or rather - interpreted levels.
yeah. The sea food thing still bugs me tho. Its still a creature who's life had to end so you can eat it. If thats one of the morals
behind someone not eating meat.. but they still eat seafood, i find it pretty hypocritical.
damnit - now you're going to make kina eat one less kind of meat!
oh yeah.. i forgot she eats seafood
hah i just ate a piece of sushi... lol yeahhhhhh....
and yeah, that quote steph said included 'pulses' which are grains and beans and things. those can for sure give you enough.
and of course it comes down to a lifestyle thing
but it wasn't really the fat content that i'm concerned about when eating meats. it's more the damage it does to your body. it just rots.
but does seafood rot in there as well?
Doesn't all food kinda rot in your tummy? but yeah.. i can see that. I think when people eat meat, they really dont see it as an animal.
Just another piece of food.
well the acids break up all the veggie parts except for the glucose i think. meat i dont know - that gets even more complicated.
the human body can't digest it
frig! thank you. the other 'ose.
i knew it felt wrong typing it!
not much of meat is 'used'; the body just passes it right through. and since our tract is mega long it has to travel a lot, uselessly
plants require longer digestion because we use more of it and it's more complex. and yes, sarah was right, that's cellulose!
just like we can't eat certain plants! like... grass!
the effects on cancer are not that huge
also WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A CREDIBLE SOURCE!! haahaha
i think that the arguement of meat eaters vs vegetarians is extremely biased
and at this point in time there is no right or wrong answer
most of the stuff i looked at said vegetarians are more health because they choose their diets more carefully, not because they don't eat me
at, which makes perfect sense to me
you need SOME fat in your diet, but controlled portions and quality meats are the key to keeping it healthy
however, i think we can all agree that not many people do that, which is what leads it to be unhealthy. if you eat 24oz steaks every day,
of course your risk of heart disease is going to go up
but being a vegetarian doesn't make you immune to diseases that meat eaters get
and in some cases the risk is exactly the same
i also wonder about the seafood thing though!! i guess vegans don't eat seafood
all personal/moral/spiritual reasons aside, for some people not eating meat has its benefits but for most its part of a balanced diet
that's why its in the food guide.
even if it rots in your tummy that's a waste issue...you still get all the nutrients out of it
its pretty much ALL has to do with whether you choose to eat healthy or not. if you skip out on meat but you eat TONS of candy or chips,
vs. someone who eats a small chicken breast with a side of veg and snacks in moderation
the meat eater comes out on top...but if you're a veg and you eat SUPER healthy meals all the time and take multivitamins etc. over somone
who eats bacon and cheeseburgers every day, then its obvious who is going to be more healthy
btw kina a multivitamin is a supplement. that's what i was referring to when i said that
if you don't get enough iron or whatever in your diet you just take one of those a day and it helps
but they didn't always have those
that article you posted says that disease is genetic from defective proteins
and the *only suspected case* of it coming from beef products
the pregnancy thing reminded me of friends...when pheobe craves meat when she's preggers ahaha
"Red meat can be eaten, but limited to no more than once a week. " I could totally get behind this...in excess.

I friggin hardly ever eat
large quantities of red meat. Whereas I've heard of some of the ladies at work cooking that shit every night because of demanding hubbies.><
ewww. the most i eat of red meat is in cheese steaks
and i maaybe eat those once month.. not even
for reals. i actually cant stand any slabs of red meat or meat on bones.
i love steak but once a month. i can't afford that shit, my daddy cooks it for me haaha
we eat quite a bit of chicken, lean ground beef, and the occasional pork
chicken is to good. i couldn't give it up. Maaaaaybe red meat... but not chicken
i totally love that fake stuff that geoff puts in the indian stuff he makes. soooo fucking good imo.
i could give up meat if i had to (BUT I WOULD NEVER WANT TO XD) but i would probably be even more unhealthy because i hate a lot of veggies
some of them have grown on me but still not enough to be balanced
yeah.. i went veggie in high school. I got reaaaaaally sick because i wasn't eating anything to replace the meat i didn't eat. and i hated
veggies.. i was a noodletarian.
i would eat like...eggs and cereal and potatoes and that's it. LOL
yeah.. all starch and grains and carbs. Not to healthy.
only overcooked boiled eggs smell like farts
i wish i liked eggs. Some of the meals look good with them. But the texture thing gets to me. i can only eat them in my fried rice..
... oh shit! I have fried rice in a box i can make for dinner tomorrow! Fuck you ramen!
oh man, i need to make my fried noodles tonight!
