Try changing the pad material, like i know they sell things you put on the pads that make them more responsive.

Try putting tape or lil plastic or something to give it more response when you hit it.

Yeah, was reading about opening the cymbal and adding half a piece of tape or something on it, but no screwdrivers nearby
