interesting.
Wow! Never would have thunk that one
it makes sense but it's sure to annoy a lot of people.
if Scoble has weighed in on that, or KRose.
agrees with Twitter's apparent decision to limit the # of peeps that a tweeter can follow and thinks that the limit should be a lot lower
Must be a feeble attempt at lowering the server load.
if there are really that many tweets worth watching?
disagrees that the resulting decrease on server load would be "feeble"
it's a good idea for twitter's servers, but not necessarily a good idea for twitter's reputation.
the following limits are different for every twitterer i read somewhere else - i think on get satisfaction.
that it would enhance Twitter's rep because the service would run more efficiently
that every Twitter user should have a min. number of free "follows" and should have to pay to have more
pay? that could happen. some more discussion
here
i think it's because of those damn spammers... female names + 3 or 4 digit numbers
probably
daysies - although spammers will just create multiple small accounts.
oh - I thought they were my friends. Dammit.
i think they're doing this because if you're following 1000 people and only 10 follow you back
however, if you follow 1000 and 1000 follow you back, you shouldn't have a limit
so what are they going to do with those that have a HUGE following?... delete them?
Do you think plurk will follow in their footsteps to avoid potential problems? Might as well learn (if so)
agrees with daysies. I have many more followers than I actually follow, tho. I have found many to just be bots/fakes.
THIS LINK in which the company explains it's current policies re limits
expresses his disagreement with the way that Twitter apparently and arbitrarily and secretly accords different users different limits
i think it's better if you have more followers than following... it means people like what you say
at least anecdotally my understanding is that twitter uses an algorithm similar to 'karma' that is based on the individual
e.g. how quickly you add people you're following, your ratio, relavence of tweets, etc.
i also know of at least one case,
richardsayer, where his ban/limit was just temporary
thanks
mizellw - it does sound like an algorithm if it is different for everyone.
