Today is the the Scripture-Verse-Which-Must -Not -Be-Fully-Read-At-Mass
latest #17
Are you talking about that part where husbands have to be willing to die for their wives?
the priest I had actually wove it into his homily
I got to read the 2nd reading at Vigil yesterday - my first official reading as a Confirmed Catholic.
and yes we did the 'short form'.
I have a little problem with the long form except - CS Lewis in "Mere Christianity" has a good explanation for why it might be a good idea:
basically, if your kid (or dog) did something to the kid living next door and you had to deal with the family over it,
wouldn't you rather deal with the Dad? 'Cause you know the mom wouldn't stop until she had blood.
remember, it is also supposed to apply to Christ and the Church
we actually had the whole reading at our parish
we had the entire reading as well ..
did have the entire reading and even referenced in homily. I do love the Husbands love your wife as Christ loves the Church.,
However, our pastor's homily didn't reference the gospel at all that I could tell...
He talked about a Soviet prisoner who memorized Rudyard Kipling poems...
second Mass of the day was the short form of the reading
We always seem to have women read that, and we never do the shortened version. None have yet to get choked up while reading it.
