I got to read the 2nd reading at Vigil yesterday - my first official reading as a Confirmed Catholic.

I have a little problem with the long form except - CS Lewis in "Mere Christianity" has a good explanation for why it might be a good idea:

We always seem to have women read that, and we never do the shortened version. None have yet to get choked up while reading it.
