it would be more odd if some protocols would work while others wouldn't. Sounds like network board is broken.
That would not at all surprise me.
Take the opportunity and put a fibre optic board in.
It was fixed fairly quickly to be fair, with an external restart thingummy. Quite why it occurred is a bit of a quandary though.
had servers respond to ping but not ssh before. Had a case where some apache processes were getting hung and never exiting. So ...
... eventually ran out of file descriptors. Had to bump server.
okay, that's probably way too verbose...
