well i have been getting suggestions of people i have Gmail from/to at some point. Except I know I have no common friends with them.

I think it's mining my gmail for names, except that I never said it could thru the search-friends or anywhere else.

do it!! like setup 2 gmail addys and 2 fake fb accounts, then send a few emails between the 2 gmails

then see if fake-fb-1 gets fake-fb-2 suggested as a friend when logged in. what do u think?

uh, I already have the gmail accts, just need to make fb accounts for them

and I send mail between them anyway
