Rep. Lynn Jenkins got a LOT of flack for stating the party needed to find a "great white hope". In context, do you find this offensive?

I didn't think much of it as to me it's a cliche phrase. I do think she could have picked something different and more effective..
You need to have the foresight to recognise the racial undertones and know that the media will jump on it. Was I offended? No.
Besides cliches are lame. Be original! I ask though because I'm always interested to see where the lines of political correctness are drawn.
Agreed. Especially that yeah she needs to be on guard at all times and a slip like that, ill-intent or not, can sink a politician.
For me, it was just another prime example of the importance of thought before speech.
what IS the context and was it in a speech or some other comment?
she spoke at a Republican Forum and the exact quote was: "Republicans are struggling right now to find the great white hope,"
"I suggest to any of you who are concerned about that, who are Republican, there are some great young Republican minds in Washington."
oh, pfft. yeah, i think that she's stupid for saying it, as these days everything gets blown waaay out of proportion but it doubtfully had
anything to do with race. as you said, cliche. also, as you said, she should've chosen her words more wisely.
our media will find ANYTHING to turn into a scandal.
