I'm not quite sure what's wrong with it. Maybe it's that the cheese didn't melt (even at 1.5 hours in a 350 deg. oven... must be fake!) or

maybe mom used to cook it extra long so it got better done... but the potatoes on the bottom are black! so maybe too long? or was it too

you should make the sauce before you pop it in the over :-)

I layer my spuds and topping and a bit of cheese and then make a roux and add milk and cheese to make sauce. Pour over and bake.

by the by, I figured out that it's the cheese. It won't melt no matter how much I heat it! so I'll have to find a better kind later
