It does not suit everyone, but the try-anything-twice rule applies.
Whisky and - to a certain extent - Whiskey, but the stuff they put into Irish Coffee is usually horrible
used to do a lot of computer work for a local vicar, and his idea of Irish Coffee basically didn't have any coffee in it
I put MacAllan's Single Malt in, by preference. Although a drop of VAT-69 is a smooth alternative.
Never tried it with Macallen. Since it is *Irish* coffee I used to make it with Tullamore Dew or Black Bush.
doesn't sound right to put Scotch in it.
Well, going out to buy Irish whiskey specifically to make Irish coffee seems a bit excessive. After attempting one, I can see the potential.
Better whiskey would probably help as would not having to improvise with double cream.
The coffee part however I can be pretty sure of getting right.
Actually this really is rather nice on reflection. Hopefully the temptation to make them on weekday mornings will not be too great.
Well, how about Irish Mist then?
Care to share your recipe?
Tateru: I have never seen that over here actually.
Alyx: I just made a cup of fresh proper coffee, poured it over a spoon into a wine glass (so as not to break it with the heat)...
...added a teaspoon of sugar and mixed, then a measure of whisky, then floated cream on the top, again over a spoon. Fairly standard I think
I have to admit I have never tried it before either-I might have one as a night cap!
I would not advise it as a nightcap unless you are immune to caffeine!
In fact I probably am...I drink tea and coffee all day long (like right now!) and a lot of Diet Pepsi, too (mostly at work though)
Sometimes I do find that I need to drink coffee in order to wake up enough to get back to sleep, odd as that may sound.
I have just unfortunately noticed that coffee has no "wake up" effect on me at all. Apart from maybe improving my mood.

which scotch offers itself most to desacration
About a third of people are immune to the stimulant effects of caffiene.
And for about half of those, caffeine acts as a mild relaxant.

that is quite interesting Tatero - and I did not intend to buy something for the purpose but select among what I have right now Beezle.
oops... Tater*u* - sorry /me needs more Scottish coffee
Considering that for ADD kids, I think stimulants and sedatives kinda work in reverse, I wonder if there's a connection.
Well, I'm one of those folks for whom caffeine and sugar have no stimulant effects, but I'm in no way ADD. I *am* autistic though.
an ADD person in the family and will look out for the described effects that so far escaped me
Isn't ritalin a stimulant, but they use it to calm down ADD children?
It is. But I did not know it aplies generally to stimulants. Plus Ritaline did not work on said person.
It's not like actual scientific quoting on my part, but if you've got an observational subject....
Ritalin is indeed a powerful stimulant, and many stimulants help people concentrate on one thing rather than being easily distracted.
