got the oddest RMA today. I have to cut the cable, take a picture of it and email them the photo, then they'll send me a new one!

have you googled for images of cut cables? Seems like a market niche.
Or did they ask you to put a newspaper and your passport on the shot as well?
nope, just a picture, but the picture must include the serial number of the device
