I found this to be a curious post, so I wanted to see what Plurkers thought.

technically yes, but there are issues that speak only to women bloggers, ie the recent NYT Blogher article in the fashion section
Sure, work/home balance is difficult for all parents, but men and women each have different roles *exterior* to either that aren't cross
I agree they should get the best speakers for the particular topic and that may be a male or may be a female
