I've been in that situation before and it really depends on the people they are. If I know all the people than I would be ok.
can you know all the people in a school? what if you went to Freddie Thomas/East/Jefferson?
I have been in this situation with Other Mike and it was really ok. I would really want to go to one of those schools for a day.
It is probably very hard when you have no friends.
probably..where'd you go, mike? what was the situation?
Its a little akward at first, but if your comfortable around them, and get along, then its the same thing sitting with anyone else.
I know it makes me feel really uncomfortable and out of place but I get used to it and I accept it.
id probably never feel totally comfortable, with that many kids that were raised in an almost different culture u might say, itd be awkward
I think it depends on the type of kids in that group whether it's black people that fit societies standards or the ones who haven't found it
in themselves to speak just as properly as the rest of the educated Americans in our society.
just cuz theyre black speaking like theyre uneducated becomes the problem u might face?
yeah I think I'd fel pretty out of place at first, but not because they happen to have different colored skin. I think I'd be more
uncomfortable with the fact that they're a part of a different culture that I'm not used to. Unless I grew up in that community w/ all
hehehehehhehehehhehhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! i am
black people, I don't think it would affect me that much though cuz that would be all I knew and whatt I've grown up to kow..
Okkkkkkkk!
exactly. I think it's the differences in culture between us and those kids I said earlier. but it just depends on the kids I suppose and how
they differ from us besides just race.
good points...magg...what's "proper english"? did you read the part in dyson about code-switching and about ebonics/black english
yeah, and that whole beginning part about how they went thru the whole brown vs board thing just to get them into schools and to become
active and accepted members in our society yet now they push the differences even further because they're not trying to better themselves
and that was what the whole case was about to begin with... was to make them part of our society and to include them.
but that's cosby talking...what does dyson say? who do you think has it right? are black people simply "lazy"? or is the
yet the seperation stays present because they lack the desire to better educate themselves and make the most of their schooling opportunity.
I think it depends on situation... some kids are better off however does that mean they can't try to change themselves?
i would feel wierd i probably would try my best to avoid getting into that situation to begin with
i dont have many black friends so being in a group like that and going to a school where racism is a problem
i would feel really wierd and like everyone was looking at me
I don't think it would be that bad, you can still make friends
true...but as ben said, sticking out is never easy...no matter who you are
