it's historical from when you couldn't charge 0L for anything. There's no excuse for it now.
wonder about this everytime. its like i want to try jeans in rl and have to pay for.
as annoying it may be - but demo skins have to be uploaded too ( the files ) or hair/ demo signs and so on...
You'll be surprised how many people use demo hair and skins and shoes for pictures Don't sweat the small stuff, it's only 1L
Am I the only one who doesn't care about that one space buck? Maybe i just don't know enough shops that charge for it, or I don't try out
I won't try a L$1 demo unless I'm really liking the item. Then, I kind of think of it as spending to avoid waste.
if the 1L is really that much? c'mon.
I used think it was not that much. Till my sister started playing SL too. She's just starting out, and not yet committed to SL.
And, she's like, "why do I have to pay $1L for a demo, jeez, I don't have that much." I say get her addicted with free demos!
Well maybe but if you don't have money for demos will you have to buy regular product? Save/earn/whatever and come back with money.
but if i dont have much money, and save it.why should i spend my maybe hard saved money on something i dont like, when i finally wear it?
when i go hair shopping, sometimes i try about 20 demos.and then its not 1,but 20l$..
I think that effort to make demo (signs, textures, time) what designers put into it is worth 1L. My opinion of course.
I hate L$1 demos. You can waste hundreds of lindens that way. It does put me off. If you really want me to buy the $1000L skin, you should
provide a free demo. One of the best things about fri.day is the free demos for clothes too! That is fantastic!
I kinda agree with everybody haha.basically if you can't stand 1L demos don't buy them
then.it's the designers' prerogative to charge/give f
free demos.but yeah personally I end up buying way more hair when the demo is free, cos I try more new types of hair and end up liking it
I'm ok with 1L demos, mostly because I'm a builder and I know how much time and money goes into making demos
AnaTrefusis is right. I love the fri.day demos =D
This is my pet peeve. Designers - Please.. STOP
For christ sake people $1L is only 4 thousandths of a penny
G - IT ADDS UP. Exp for people who save up money they get and perfer it to last. there's valid points for why demos should not be 1l, and
points for why they should as well. I'm one of those people who want to have a even number all the time - so this really bugs me.
erm i meant 4 tenths...haha
Well to me its dumb to cry about $1L. You can do this, put aside a set amount of lindens to spend on just demos then. I mean honestly its
not that hard or difficult to save up lindens or to buy them for that matter.
um dont you mean recession?
lmfao@my internet auto correction my words.
correcting * -_- OKAY I'M LEAVING. But i dont like 1l demos.
ok, I don't understand the comments that it's lots of work to make a demo. You kidding? You already made the product. It's a matter-
of altering a couple textures and attaching a box.
Demos are in your best interest as a designer/creator to get people to buy the product for full price. I am far more likely to buy when
there is a demo available, esp for high ticket items. There really is no reason to charge for them. And if I did the math, in all my time
in SL I am sure I have spent at a minimum a couple thousand Ls on demos.
Today's xchange indicates L$2000 can be purchased for USD$8.00. Over almost 3 years, that's $2.60 a year. Seems cheap ass, not greedy ass.
If you don't want to pay, don't buy, and don't bitch. Just makes you seem petty for squabbling over such a small amount when no one's
forcing you to pay it. Not like.. electricity, or taxes.
That was my point, I am less likely to purchase from a designer who charges for demos. They lose that business. I am saying in the long run
it makes more sense for them to offer free demos than charge for them as they lose potential business. I may be cheap, but then
that makes them greedy for charging it.
Greedy? Charging for their work? O.M.G.
They are charging for something that is of no long term use to their customer. Something that's only purpose is to get their customer to pay
them even more money. They should be free. Apply this type of thinking to everything. It doesn't make sense.
You don't charge your customer to test drive your product. The payment is in selling the product, not in the demo.
You've already made the product. There is almost no work involved in creating a demo.
I would never dream of charging for a demo. The only reason the practice ever started was for accounting purposes when $0 transactions
were not available in your transaction history. There is no reason for them now.
Then maybe no one should offer demos, and you can just accept the crapshoot that comes with the associated guesswork on the product.
When you can't afford to drop a Linden on a service product like a demo, time to get offline.
i remember a time when a 0L$ Demo was the exception, not it's expected, who is greedy?
