in Hemingway's bio it said that he blamed his mother for his father's suicide so maybe that influenced the way he portrayed
women in his writing

It's certainly possible- he is known for being quite the misogynist. I think part of that might be the influence of the time period.
well, it is the "Lost Generation". As we discussed in class, Hemingway was very masculine...
...and it makes sense that he would resist the equal rights of women. Perhaps, through his literature...
...that was the only way he could maintain control of the old values, the seperate spheres.
