you still might take a hit even if its redirecting ok, but it's nothing much. I'd take the slight possible hit......

as I have always seen better performance in the long run not having it in there.

I2m just wondering about doing that, since with wordpress 2.6, that was a problem. So God knows, they may not support it anymore soon anyway

I did that just recently (remove the index.php from my URL) & re-org my permalinks. Not sure yet if it's affecting my SEO/traffic that much.

It has definitely my site's performance, though. So hopefully, the negative effect (if any) is just short term. Long term benefits is what

Oh, and I did put re-directs, so old links are re-directing (even the search engines). I tested it on one of my popular posts - & Google

already re-indexed the new URL, it seems.
