my cat goes into fits if i am not home for more than a day. but, yes, cats are more fickle than dogs, it seems

i think that's basically correct. it seems scientists believe that cats are the only animals that domesticated US, rather than the other way

i have had cats and dogs, and cats are more independent minded, whereas dogs are more 'family minded', if you will

i like them both, but a cat can be left alone for longer times without needing to go outside, be walked, etc. That's a trait I like!

dogs may crave for attention but in terms of loyalty as in the above article, I think the bond is special.

i agree that is true. cats are more indifferent. i don't like clingy pets, however, and simply prefer the more 'distant' company of cats :-)
