So I am awaiting approval from the uni I'll be (hopefully) doing the MEd with. I had to send them the pre-req courses I'm missing so I can start the MEd
TURNS OUT the only difference between a Chinese language major and an English language major is...
14 is weird as the courses available (or that I could find) are 3 each so I need 5 courses, huzzah
1 linguistics, 1 PRESENTATION (ew), and 2/3 literature
I was shocked I did not get the linguistics credit, but apparently my BA uni called linguistics a PHILOSOPHY class
To appeal that decision would mean a lot of effort and luckily for me I like linguistics enough that I'm not offended about retaking it
MMMMMMN YEAH GIVE ME THAT SYNTAX and stuff
Well at least it's a class you enjoy
The literature classes though, most of the 20 required reading assignments are things I did in high school
Like Beowulf is on the list, and Twelfth Night and Dorian Gray , The Raven, The Great Gatsby
Like........................
Do I remember all of it no...? Sorry to Kelly and Randy in particular. I remember Edgar Allen Poe's stuff. Big fan lmao
So I'm trying to pick ones I haven't read from the list
Because boredom is a growing fear
So of the 3 literature courses, one of them is just analyzing so I'll probably do like Linguistics+Literature 1+....... algebra eek
Then Presentation+Literature 2+Geometry eek
Theeeen Literature 3+Statistics+any missing Praxis prep, practice, review nonsense
So if I speed run, maybe get this done in 3-5 months
All the courses are online, rolling start or whatever the fuck you want start dates (except linguistics so it's first in line)
Because I needed credits sent to the uni, I'm doing it through
https://study.com. But it's a little expensive. I got a voucher for 25% from the uni so that helps. But the sooner I get it done (monthly sub, not per course sub) the less money spent
It's sad how much reading requirements and literacy has slipped
Some of the reading on the list I read with my students in China lmao
Like The House on Mango Street. That's one of their literature pieces for 10th grade as EFL students
Of Mice and Men, that's an 8th grade book
At least for my kids, I think I read it then too..? Or 7th. Maybe 7th. 7th reading reqs were wild
EITHER WAY. They have like that as an option Catcher in the Rye is on there
Like ???? This is college credits right
Catcher in the Rye was definitely middle school
I remember nothing except I felt I wasted my time because I didn't like the ending LMAO
Oh, little me. So sweet and dumb af
Either way! I am avoiding those and trying to read ones I don't know
Like I never had the opportunity to read... A Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave so that's one I'm picking for my list
Orrrrr Common Sense, never bothered with that one
But some categories like American Literature for Romantics and Transcendentalism... Kelly, my dear English teacher from high school, she covered every option for those categories lol
And Randy covered so much of the British Literature side or Ancient Literature
Beowulf, The Knight's Tale, no problem
So a few re-reads are inevitable, but I'll survive
Hopefully I'll hear back from the uni for course approval and then I can bite the bullet to sign up for the courses, and then run to a library and hope they have what I need with minimal wait time
