It has so far.
kcarruthers says

might not be hard to do if they have watched & learned about architecture
tjgillies says

maybe if they had servers that didn't suck like twiFAIl

they made some infrastructure changes pretty promptly on the weekend so if that response is any indication it bodes well?

the JoshMeister is

shocked that it's holding up as well as it has. I've only noticed very minor semi-downtimes so far, but OTOH, Twitter has *way* more users
jark wants

plurk to be reliable and believes it will turn out to be so. or at least i hope so. so, yeah!

I actually give it 1 chance in 3.
shaf says

Or more to the point how is plurk going to scale ? I'm very interested as to why they use python. Let me think Googleapp uses python too ?!
creamhackered thinks
it's all to do with how many users, twitter is getting hit because it's getting popular. I'd like to see how Plurk scales when it gets hit
lizard.beer

anyone know what platform they're using here? please tell me it's not ruby.
lizard.beer
oh wait n/m. i see the python thing. python = encouraging.
kcarruthers says
we'll see how it scales now scoble has his name back ;-)
shaf says
Come on look up twitter's architecture on high scalability.com. It's a kiddies system. Plurk is threading tweets here which is more load
shaf says
I recogn plurk is handing us real well at the moment but will have problems
dougclinton
hehe. all the images on the scalability.com home page are broken. guess it didn't scale.
shaf thinks
dougclinton is way too clever ;-) highscalability.com
creamhackered says

sonnygill says

the question actually is, is plurk actually more useful than twitter...
saint_ethique wishes

that
nightsky says
well now that plurk is taking some of the traffic from twitter, it should be interesting to see what happens with both services.
nibbler says
if not, now that you're here, they can blame you for outages
cactus says

if you can't, I recommend hari-kari.

chandowflee thinks

UKStevieB wants

plurk to be more stable, they seem to be coping with the sudden influx at the moment
Adheeth feels

plurk would perform better than twitter :-)
jmh_d_thenar

I put my money on Python over Ruby anyday performance- and scale-wise.

sweetestsmiles says

wondering what will happen if plurk follows twitter's history. hope the guys knows the load
shaf
w2k7beta not only that for the same amount of users as twitter, plurk will have to work 2-3s as harder due to greater functionality offered
AdamDesAutels
I sure hope so :-D
ianbetteridge says
shaf A lot depends on how it's engineered. Twitter would be very scalable if they'd designed it as a messaging system, not a CMS.
shaf loves

ianbetteridge. You took the words right out of my mouth. Message queues, message queues, message queues
ianbetteridge says

plus, of course, fitter hamsters to run in the wheels that power their servers!
codemonke says

so far so good but the load is nowhere near twitters yet
mahadewa says
that it is so too early to tell. They haven't released their API yet. When they do, we will see.
shaf
mahadewa plurk is already budging at the seams. A good indicator to check is to see if their IM bot is up. If it is... the load can cope
NetHead says

NikkiPilkington

doesn't hold out much hope as the userbase gets bigger
shaf feels

he has faith in this platform. It's doing a lot more work than you realise.
sweetestsmiles

at this pt, I think yes. but I cannot say for sure if scob manages to pull in >20K followers and having >20k+ plurking at any one time.
sweetestsmiles asks
scob if he know the hardware used for plurk
Dean L.

I fink so. Hey scobleizer why won't you approve mah friend request, man?
rumford says

so far so good. i think since they do not have all the developer API hits it just might survive and scale. ;-)
