like i got a payout from that house situation that was over 20k, and i got the regular tax papers from the house itself, as i do every year

Hmm....I don't have any experience with this sort of thing, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but maybe reach out to the real estate company that helped sell the house and ask them about it. You probably aren't the first person to have this sort of question, and they might be able to direct you to the info you need.
