I can kind of understand it because it doesn't mesh well with flow of writing, but an automatic fail is harsh

Honestly language evolves and it means “and” now. The whole weird “well technically it’s supposed to mean and per se and is only supposed to be used in specific circumstances” is fucking dumb and pedantic
