b: yeah of course the person who plays vi also is obsessed with korra what a shocker
korra is perfect. korra is wife. korra is gender. all of these things are true.
anyway what has specifically set me over The Edge is that I saw someone with their whole chest try to argue that aang? is a better WATERbender?? than korra????
korra who is from the water tribe. korra who was raised in the south pole.
because aang was trained by katara? oh i see.
motherfucker who do you think trained korra
an older and wiser and better katara perhaps?? die.
just say you hate queer women!! just own it with your whole chest!!
say you hate women of color, fine, own it, but trying to pretend that korra isn't at least just as strong as aang, frankly, is absurd given everything we see happen in both series
not that power scaling matters in discussions of what is a better show or narrative, and frankly despite the fact that i love thinking about how characters from different shows would fight and who would win i have absolutely no time for power scalers
but! to out and out disparage korra and say that she's weaker than aang or a trash avatar is just
either you are blinded by your nostalgia for the original avatar, which is kind of fair since i think it's probably on the whole a better show
(which has more to do in my opinion with the production issues and the way that bryke got jerked around by nickelodeon than anything to do with the intended story, arc, and character of korra herself)
or you just hate that korra is a queer brown woman and you have to stump for your boy hero
"bluh bluh korra lost the avatar lineage" oh no so she can't get told by roshi every season to kill a motherfucker? roshi who let a global war and genocide happen because he couldn't get over his fascist ex-boyfriend by the way
aang let a genocide happen!! yes he was a 12 year old kid but korra is just a teenager fighting an eldritch shadow god
motherfuckers will also talk about korra "losing all her fights" like azula didn't actually kill aang
anyway thanks for coming to my TED talk i guess
korra gets an unreasonable about of hate, honestly. and I feel like a lot of it is because she isn't aang and that she happens to also be a woman. people really can't take off their nostalgia goggles long enough to see what both characters brought to their individual series and how they reacted to their own situations. like I know people are going to
come for me when I say this, but I think people forget that while yes, aang had to fight a very serious battle, I'd say the amount of shit Korra had to go through was actually insane. she was beat down so many times and she had to overcome so much. her story wasn't constantly "oh this avatar spirit guided me" like Aang's. she had to contend with a
much darker world. and just because her villain arcs were contained in a single season for each one does not mean her achievements were any less impressive ffs
yeah, nah, aang had to go against one power crazy dictator but frankly korra's "rogues gallery" was way more sinister, wide-reaching, and dangerous than what aang had to put up with. i mean a fully realized avatar aang nearly got taken out by yakone, and day one korra had to take on both of his kids even more refined and dangerous!
let alone the spirit of all darkness that only one avatar had ever dealt with before, or a crazy terrorist cell that filled her with liquid metal poison to begin with. and also mech suits??
she had so much shit to deal with, especially when the whole point of the show from day one is that she was a hot head struggling to deal with her spiritual side and had to Grow, just like aang had to cope with his non-violence and evasion
