there's something..... off.... about Kipperlily. beyond her being the obvious villain (when brennan does twist villains they're mostly in conjunction with more obvious villains i find, like how Penelope was obvious but Biz, Aelwyn and KVX were less so, or how Belizabeth and Ciabatta were obvious but Plumbeline and Calroy were a little less blatant)

but there's also the whole deal with the doppelgangers that the special agents are investigating, which is getting labeled as fig but could easily be someone else posing as fig, like her nightmare in the forest of the nightmare king.

and the echoes...

kipperlily copperkettle literally has the exact same amount of syllables as penelope everpetal to the point where the cast keeps accidentally calling her copperpetal. the way that the plan revolves around an exploit in the bylaws to use a technicality to propel a seemingly benign popularity title into uh. something much more serious.

aguefort and gilear are both sent out of the way, fig is rendered severely weakened by a bad luck curse that's bound her soul to another fiend which should put her in a LOT of trouble once the bottomless pit finds out about it.

i'm not sure that the rat grinders have been replaced by doppelgangers because there's like. little moments of humanity from most of them that you wouldn't expect from an impersonation, and the way that kipperlily is insistent that oisin be kept in the dark reads as someone who does actually care about him

kipperlily thinks the system is unfair, her party member was murdered, other students have also been murdered including penelope, dayne, zayn, etc and nothing was done about them meanwhile aguefort shot himself in the head to bring kristen and gorgug back............ idk. it could go either way. kipperlily really seems to have killed lucy but i wouldn't be

surprised if that's subverted somehow.

I have read so many fanfics that use that exact line. Brennan is feeding me.

i missed her so much...... i think the idea that she would stay at mordred when adaine wasn't there for. well. months. was a bit naive because adaine was kind of her sole reason for being a better person in the first place and now she's just in a house with a bunch of good parents who want to help her.

and the way she just can't cope with a normal life because it's so depressing and lonely, so she just winds up trafficking stuff and blackmailing people to fill the void, like how she gravitated toward parties and drug dealing and later penelope because of how bored and miserable she was

but

at least she has ten cats now

I get why Aelwyn is working for Kipperlily. What I don't get yet is why Kipperlily specifically hired Aelwyn

she must know she is related to Adaine

is she specifically trying to target her to take the fall for her at some point?

does she want Aelwyn to feed Adaine and the other false information?

It just seems like a big risk to hire the sister of one of your rivals, even if she is very skilled at crime.

i think she's planning on framing aelwyn for murder

like aelwyn is absolutely the one getting conned here

she has the perfect record for it too

the whole 'this person who had a long criminal record and was involved in starting a war between two nations has murdered someone' is not a hard sell

especially with the true fact aspect that aelwyn did relapse into crime (very minor crime but)

also tbh even just with what they've been doing it reflects WAY more harshly on aelwyn than it does on kipperlily

Bill Seacaster got amnesty under the same law and he had even less of an excuse for the stuff he did. You can argue it is a bullshit law but it isn’t favouritism on agueforts behalf.

he mentions to aelwyn that he did the same thing for seacaster. but yeah it's part of the solisian legal system which. you know. aguefort had a massive hand in creating. i don't agree that it's favoritism necessarily because he just kind of does shit like this on a whim.

she just wasn't a citizen, so it's a bit of a bullshit loophole, like how kipperlily getting the rogue teacher was a bullshit loophole. whatever the root of their grudge is, it seems like it's very misdirected
