the tl;dr is that they found that a mix of limiting distractions, time blocking, and meditation (and generally taking breaks) was the best for their focus.
the part I felt the most was that like... productivity hacks and time blocking and all that stuff works... to an extent
the real turning point was getting to watch them be super-productive for a week and then crash really hard with a productivity hangover
I have this in my watch later lmao9
personally I struggle a lot with any advice that includes meditation because I have never been able to get my brain to shut up when I attempt that
for sure, meditation is really hard
I used to have some weird hang-ups with meditation because it seems so hippy-dippy, and it's hard to like, tell if it's working...
so between that and my loud brain, meditation used to be really, really difficult... but it does get easier the more you do it, I think your brain eventually goes "oh okay we know what this is" and it gets easier to get into the zone
I really liked this video because it pointed out that just productivity hacks may not be helpful if you have a busy lifestyle where distractions are inevitable and simplifying your schedule isn't feasible
have you ever watched any videos by Dr K (HealothyGamerGG)? he goes into ADHD stuff an dopamine and stuff like thast
Honestly the new age interpretation of meditation is...mmmm. Not really what meditation actually is. I mean 'meditation' is really just an umbrella term for multiple very different practices.
insufficientdata: I don't think I have! I've been in the ASD sphere of YouTube so my ADHD recs have stopped popping up as much but I can totally go look at their stuff
crossthesky: that's totally fair, I was also like okay we're uh, oversimplifying a little....
Like...the type of meditation that works for a neurotypical person isn't necessarily going to work for someone who is atypical. We can't do the 'clear your mind' style of meditation, but that is just one type of many.
god meditation became actually doable for me when i realized you don’t HAVE to shut the inner voice up
yeah the most you can do (or at least...I can do) is just sit there going "mmhm" to it
thirding, "clearing your mind" is nearly impossible for me, I've had a lot more success with the "yep brain that is a thought, I see it, and we're back to breathing now" type of meditation lmao
