prior to new vegas the brotherhood of nevada had a massive war with the NCR and were driven into hiding but it's possible that they're canonizing the endings where the brotherhood either allies with the ncr or stole helios-1 from them when the NCR was fighting for the dam but i think the fact that they have open communication with the commonwealth indicates

lucy and maximus are both inclined to think of wastelanders as backwards savages for different reasons. brotherhood of steel is stuck in this constant state of mourning the past with no faith in the future and the vaults think of themselves as the last remnants of that blissful past

but the fundamental truth at the heart of the fallout universe is that actually things were always like this, it just used to be hidden under this veneer of false pleasantries and social decorum, and just like how everything wasn't all bad in the past and there were good people, the same is true in the wasteland

so a vault full of weirdos that lets everyone in would seem like a major red flag but they're actually trying to make up for choices made by monsters before the war

that wasn't even a huge reveal for me when I first heard it on the show, I was just like "yeah that sounds about right"

yeah i was a bit baffled because it's so obvious in the context of fallout lore that vault tec needed to guarantee that there wasn't any ceasefire. the show introduced the possibility of one, that was fresh but it doesn't contradict anything.

there's also no guarantee that they actually did drop the bomb - just that they were planning it. there's circumstantial evidence that the bomb came earlier than they were expecting (mr house getting caught 20 hours earlier than he expected, coop's wife not taking their daughter on the day that the bombs dropped, etc)

I heard people say it doesn't make sense bc vault-tec's business model is selling vaults and it would be more expensive to maintain them after the bombs

however I think big companies are dumb and myopic enough to do that for short term gains

big companies would absolutely fail the marshmallow test every time
