I would love to try and tell some kind of story, even if it's just running a premade, bc it's been forever since I last tried to run a season of a game (it was forever ago in star wars)

and the irl friendgroup that normally plays together is not all going to be playing, so it's like. well. gotta see if I could wrangle more peeps in on this

to let you know how early on and not at all sure this is, I've been asking potential players to consider what they want insofar as themes and genres and shit, I literally make zero promises about anything

but what I do know is that I would like it to be a serious and dangerous tone with pc death fully on the table

and the two friends who are def about this have so far already come up with characters who are
-a good apple owl wizard detective ostensibly in a sea of bad apples
-and their partner in detectiving, a plasma dude with a moustache
basically a funky sherlock and watson type lollll

so basically uhhhhhh if you're interested in meeting new people and in playing a game maybe someday who knows, with a dm who is so fucking new to dming and isn't always great about improv off the dome bc that's a skill you learn with practice /fingerguns

afaik it would be voice chat over discord using d&d beyond (our usual dm who has access to. just. so many books has made me a campaign room for whenever so their silly characters are already there) annnnnd I would probably have to learn how to use owlbear at some point for battlemaps!!!

or I could go back to roll20 and dick around in that, who knows

it'd heavily depend on schedule, but...

this would be way off from now but something to consider would beeee waiting until the new phb drops (with the reworkings and new subclasses and all that)

little deets have been trickling out, there's supposed to be a p cool and robust 3d vtt but y'know there really hasn't been any new info on that since late last year so /waggles hand but still, who knows

i'm into it

I actually started busting out my story engine and deck of worlds cards to play with, and it's been great to generate some basic ideas and plot hooks, even if idk how they tie together, IF they tie together, and where they're going, but it's also helping me inform what kind of world this might be

(I was playing with specifically engine's mystery expansion bc having a baby wizard cop and her watson so far as characters makes me want to lean that way)

I'm thinking a more urban fantasy type lean, which is wild bc beyond dresden files that's very not my type (but hey high fantasy is also not my type, she said, balls deep in d&d and bg3 and fire emblem), cars and guns and more modern stuff but with, y'know, fantasy twists

we'll see what I spit out but if there are Opinions feel free

I also have one Really Cool Thing that I figure will happen at least once that I will have to cobble together some form of rules for between the internet and myself which I am stupid excited for even tho it's putting more work on myself??? self why
