its practically that "seeing red" thing, where the only thing one can think of is hurting something or someone ends until the anger stops. cloud is very much there still. sephiroth has always been a messy ball of emotions to begin with, but with cloud coming to Folk fresh off killing him (for good, he hopes) and then never dealing with that ever

he still has a metric fuckton of unresolved emotions involved where sephiroth is concerned

he was in no way, shape, or form ready to handle a younger version of sephiroth with anything even approaching grace. shit it took him like a month or two to even work around to stalking the lil fucker on his walk to school to threaten him

cloud is scared of sephiroth

not of his fighting prowess of course, or of he himself being hurt somehow; he's scared that this sephiroth will fuck with his head some more and that he won't notice until he's stabbing someone he loves in the neck

so, yeah, the vast majority of how cloud feels about seph is wrapped up in that very real and very intense fear

there IS still a part of him that objectively knows this sephiroth isn't the same person with the same motives. if he were put in a centrifuge and all his terror and anger got spun outta him, he might even be able to find sympathy for him as a fellow lab rat

but it's very hard to separate anything else he could potentially feel about sephiroth from his fear right now. SO cloud considers mimiroth his cold war opponent right now kinda 😭

as an aside, 1 convo usually isn't enough for donnie to give a shit abt a person, but he thinks pretty positively abt sephiroth (largely bc sephiroth was on his side RE mikey post LMAO). i look forward to having them talk more

fontech: cloud's loved zack forever of course, but he's FINALLY starting to take baby steps to make it something deeper than the "he saved me, I'm the burden who stole his life, he's my personal martyr" deal they sorta had going before

as cloud gets more comfortable with being around zack, he learns (or re-learns) more of what makes zack his own person and that leads to deeper understanding, and an even deeper appreciation

cloud will probably never stop hero-worshipping zack just because they are both the people they are, but by seeing zack's vulnerabilities, the relationship between them feels more balanced. that's also why cloud wants to take care of Zack; not necessarily something so formal or clinical as balancing some cosmic scale, but bc he wants to understand him better

however, it was never going to last, esp not after "i would remove you from the equation" and casey realizing/accepting that this donnie may act and sound a lot like his uncle, but is actually probably the FURTHEST from his future counterpart in how he feels about casey

as a result, casey wants to get to know this unfamiliar donnie better and have this unfamiliar donnie know HIM better, but DONNIE is like now hold on. i didn't want any of that. because he's just Like That with the vast majority of new people, with VERY few exceptions, and that's why he is friendless and bitchless

SO. GROWING PAINS. it happens with most of his CR (it even happened with leo) and through many uncomfortable struggles, i have confidence they will figure their shit out in due time

donnie hasnt used the word "mom" for rue but honestly, they are there already. probably once he comes around to how he feels about that word (and whether or not he can get rue back if they get separated), he will begin using it

by virtue of being the optional side char, Vincent doesnt get much attention in the OG game but ALSO

that means so long as bits from other media don't conflict with the tiny amount of vince screentime in OG, i can assume those things happened!!!

this is good because it paints Vincent as a kinder person. like sure, he's aloof and withdrawn in OG , but after just a little time with the group it seems like he genuinely wants to make sure these kids get through this, even if it's not his main motivation in joining up

despite cloud being dense in some matters and being self-absorbed in others (due to depression/anxiety more than anything else), i think he picked up on vincent's general vibe because, let's face it....its pretty similar to his own

closes self off and tries to ignore/run from the horrific things that happened to them. Vincent is more morally ambiguous than cloud thanks to turking, but otherwise they're not that different from each other

cloud feels comfortable talking to Vincent about darker things because..... honestly because it just seems like vincent is so used to it that it doesn't affect him anymore. (and then Vincent tactfully finds a way to tell cloud not to kill himself and cloud is reminded that vincent's heart bleeds just as red as anyone's)

donnie and leo are the best part of twin relationship because they don't get along perfectly; they fight, sometimes really viciously

and they're able to do so because they know each other so well. but there's also that security there, almost that they've resigned themselves to being stuck together (but like, in a mostly positive way????) so there's no "we fight and we go our separate ways" kind of worry like with friendships or even weaker familial relationships

donnie can be like "i hate that guy" pointing at leo and then immediately kill a man for throwing leo thru a window

even before the familiar-myth bond they formed, they were pretty good at knowing each other (what'd they say, how they think) though leo was better at it than donnie

with the change in their relationship brought on by leo's leadership + That Whole Thing (see: movie plot), donnie felt like he lost touch with who his brother is in a very short amount of time. honestly the familiar bond is mostly for HIS benefit, and it's VERY helpful

i think they probably squabble and bicker as much as usual, but as for big smackdown fights....they're probably not as dramatic and scathing as they usually are

donnie's slowly cluing into the fact that leo is NOT, in fact, a very easy read, and is using the shit out of that familiar bond to get to know what the hell is going on in his brother's heart

IF raph has been more distant, colder, or anything other than his usual mother henning, big brothering.....................don is probably getting ready to vibrate out of his skin over the Unwelcome Change

raph may need to be roped into the Sit Down and Talk that's probably going to have to happen eventually with casey and donnie and maybe some other folks, we don't know yet

donnie is actually kind of frustrated, because he'd expected raph to get it and not get mad at him (and this is part of the problem because that time APOC kind of...required don a bit and he has not even acknowledged that even a little)

donnie had slotted himself into the "protector" role in raph's absence, even if it was only with leo and no babiest brother to look after, because that's just kind of His Deal. he's not a tank or the meat shield, but he makes the gadgets and the contingencies and all the escape plans

raph shows up and that's great and all, but don still hasn't figured out to take a step back and give at least some of that role back to raph. so instead he's bullheadedly doing what he thinks is best for the family and just not asking or talking about it with them first because he MISTAKENLY assumed he was "on his own" for that

donnie is protecting mikey and mikey is seeking comfort from a brother not involved in the leo-raph drama, yes, BUT ALSO i think mikey is giving donnie something to focus on that's not the rift in their family and donnie is providing stability for mikey

i don't really subscribe to the whole "the two younger brothers bond while the older ones fight" for ROTTMNT specifically (i do for other iteractions of TMNT), but i think don and mikey are such perfect opposites in how they cope that they manage to fit together somehow

and it's honestly made him a little harder and colder than he usually would be

they don't have a problem talking, for the most part, but donnie's done some changing and now he doesn't quite fit next to mikey as neatly as he had before. he hasn't realized the problem yet and he's only just barely starting to notice something off, but it'll probably get more obvious

after aerith's death, she got deified by the narrative and somewhat by her friends, too

it's kind of hard not to when she does stuff that seems sorta god-like but that also unfortunately has the effect of people remembering her powerful planet-talking woowoo cetra magic and not like....how she takes her coffee

in folkmore cloud's relearning/remembering all the things that make aerith HUMAN and he LOVES it. it's not as if he's forgetting that she's basically the last true steward of the Planet, but it's so not a big deal here that he probably like, surface-level forgets it

yes, aerith loves flowers and is so good with plants. she is also his girlfriend and she doesn't like to be woken up in the middle of the night and she gets excited over picnics and she will play "what if i was a worm" with him when he can't fall asleep

additionally, cloud kind of felt weird about teasing her for the longest time because of the Guilt, but he's moving past it (as far as how he treats her, at the very least)

teasing aerith is very fun because she either gets sassy and teases right back OR she gets all huffy and that's JUST as cute

this is as normal a life as these two will ever have every so often that thought hits cloud and he goes and does something spontaneously romantic for her

it doesn't take a lot for cloud to throw down physically for another person, but it takes a LOT for him to open up his vulnerabilities to them willingly, without them being pried out of him first. some of his soft spots have been exposed to sharon thanks to folkmore, but the others, he gave to her because he trusts her
