his name is Angus Wotherspoon and he's a Loyalist mage who's been leading a small cohort of them in/around Ansburg since the war began

I'm mostly just coming up with details as they arise but my favorite new one is that he's the oldest son of an upper middle-class family who had to forfeit his inheritance when he came into his magic and has sublimated how pissed he is about that into deciding everything he does is for Andraste and she chose him to be a mage for Greatness reasons

had some Angus Thoughts last night and I want to put a pin in them bc I think they're better than some nebulous 'he's been leading people around'

I still think he's a firstborn noble who had to cede his title and accepted it bc Andraste's Will, but I think he was actually kind of a chill inoffensive dude (if a Loyalist) during the height of the Circles and then something radicalized him

which, bc I'm going for the full herald of Andraste vibe, I think maybe he got very injured in the mage-templar war but made a miraculous recovery

he's a Knight-Enchanter/Spirit mage and they utilize spirits so maybe it's another case of someone having like kind of too close of a relationship to a spirit that he thinks was sent by Andraste

that's as far as I've gone down that thought pattern but I'm actually pretty into the idea that he's an intelligent and resourceful person who's quietly just Super Fucking Devout

not something you'd immediately know just by talking to him. like when you're listening to a song you love in the car and it strikes you partway through that it's christian rock. which happened to me yesterday.
