Do they have sunlight? Are all humans there vitamin D deficient?

I've always imagined the deck being endless night sky of stars.

And I'm not sure if the greenhouse has fake sun or just an ambient glow of fake sun or what have you.
SᏋPH

So I've always wondered.

there's something approximating sunlight, because the vampires can't go out during the "day". I don't know for sure what it looks like XD

cacopheny: so is there a 'sun' rotating about the ship? Or blue skies?
Just👻Ghosts

Just blue skies and magic 'day to night' effects, at least as long as I've been playing
SᏋPH

So there is blue skies during the 'day'? And greenhouse and garden has the same as deck?
Cheeto Sunrise

Abel just used to taking vitamin D supplements was considering the same thing a while back.

p sure all of the garden is in the greenhouse?
SᏋPH

It's interesting because I think I've heard different things before.
cacopheny

as are the goat stables and chicken coop
SᏋPH

cacopheny: I thought garden was between greenhouse and gazebo.
no, there's garden outside of the gazebo
cacopheny

I could have it wrong in my head, but I thought it was all one thing
cacopheny

I guess I have it wrong XD
I had it wrong for a while too and then I had to check for a thing

there's actually a surprising amount of greenery around the Barge isn't there
cacopheny

I do know that the stables are in the greenhouse. I remember that from when the stables spawned
SᏋPH
Yeah, I keep being confused what's inside and what's outside too. And the natural lighting on deck and the greenhouse/garden. Is the area of greenery indoors or outside?
SᏋPH
Obviously greenhouse has a house. Or a stadium sized area at least.
SᏋPH

nammah: just those two areas... And I think there is a tree in a common room somewhere?
cacopheny
yeah one of the lower levels. it's a fractal tree. it's like. perfectly mathematical

The sky always looks like space but ambient light levels change on a day/night cycle! I swear we had a FAQ question wayyyy back in the day asking about vitamin D and the answer was that the "daylight" provides everything necessary from planetary sunlight, you don't need to take extra supplements about it, but I can't find it now
Kira🌵

one of these days we should do another FAQ/setting page rehaul to make sure everything's up to date, these are good questions

cacopheny: but with leaves and not like... Digital or artistic, right?
SᏋPH

tinwateringcan: So it is going to be constantly space but just the sky lightens from light blue to dark blue depending on day time schedule?
Nammah!

there's also a side garden space in the chapel? potted but still!
SᏋPH

nammah: ohhhh I didn't know that! Haven't had a character that needed to visit the chapel yet.
Kira🌵

The sky doesn't change color! That's an effect of light scattering in a planetary atmosphere; it's just brighter on deck
SᏋPH

tinwateringcan: Ohhhhhh! So still black skies above! Like night time with lights on but cannot see the source of lights.
cacopheny

I can't find the setting note about it but it's on the 8th level common room and it is the "embodiment of restorative forces" or something. the admiral had Hilbert sit under it to help iwth the brainwashing. I don't remember what it looks like XD
Kira🌵

Yeah, you still see the "we are flying through space" effect when looking around on deck at any time of the day-night cycle.
cacopheny
I swear there used to be a note on the setting page but I can't find it
SᏋPH

cacopheny: yeah, the settings page has really good, but there are always still some questions left
SᏋPH

tinwateringcan: how about gardens and greenhouse (beyond the glass)? Do they see a ceiling or a fake sky?
Kira🌵
there are no fake skies! the only false outside views would be in the Enclosure or if a warden specifically requested a fake view through a cabin window. that said, looking up from areas of the deck or upper deck that aren't fully enclosed (like the lounge, inside the chapel, inside the pool, etc) you'll generally see space overhead
Kira🌵
er, that was a list of fully enclosed areas, too clarify

(also: I recommend putting these questions on the ic faq so we can have a record for others!)
SᏋPH

tinwateringcan: want me to copy and paste these together into one thing and put it there somewhere?
Kira🌵
Yes, let's! Clarification on the Being On Deck Experience would be a useful thing to have recorded on the faq page.
SᏋPH

tinwateringcan: Want me do copy your answers too? Like an interview. Lol
Kira🌵

No, just put the questions in and we'll do a grouped answer that I'm not phone typing and can edit properly

I thought the light didn’t affect vampires?

Lizblackdog: That might depend on the type of vampire and player discretion?
Kira🌵
...I don't think it does hurt vampires, actually. Double checking my understanding to make sure we have a mod consensus on the setting details &I'll be able to reply later tonight when I'm near my computer again!

lilbeejack might be relevant to your boy?
Ooh yes, it would be good to know since I was informed that sunlight on the deck was an annoying kind of pain and sunlight in the Enclosure hurt way more but didn't kill Eric.
SᏋPH
lilbeejack: Yeah, they answered in faq to specify that it shouldn't affect vampires
Kira🌵
Shouldn't kill! If you want it to be uncomfortable, that can be player choice - it's just not going to set any passengers on fire, vampire or no.
