hey I'm using my public plurk again to spread this around
how about no

yeah. I know the language is broad enough that "maybe it won't be that bad" but I don't trust politicians, they have shown over and over again they very blatantly don't give a shit about our privacy

and also while I doubt it will affect "the entire world" as much as kosa would (which schumer's loser ass is still trying to force house to vote on when they go back in session even though maga mike told him no, so keep an eye on that) it's still a huge chunk of people!

and republicans have been salivating over the chance to put ID laws on "the big enemy blue state" california (aka ban porn, even though these bills don't mention porn they will very likely end up being about porn)
how about no

so y'know, for all the good it will do, spread this around, bug newsom, prepare to upload your ID and make sure it doesn't get stolen??

something important to mention in calls should you make any is the state budget and how much of a damn waste of money enforcing all of this would be
how about no

and y'know, that it violates the privacy of everyone and retaining the IDs of minors is kind of creepy
wait it’s already september, the post says that this will get voted on by the end of august
how about no

yeah they've passed and they're moving to newsom's desk now, he has until september 30th to consider these (among others)

sorry it's a long post but there's info about editing the script when talking to newsom at the bottom

and that was updated yesterday

something else to mention in calls or emails or whatever else you go: how it negatively affects websites and businesses ferreting around trying to enforce pointless shit like this
how about no

which again is bad for the economy
how about no

like I can't emphasize how bad california's economy is already with how expensive everything is, I don't think anybody wants to foot the bill for censorship laws

bumping this for morning crowd, doing my usual emailing the useless governor since I'm terrified of phone calls

I read in comments they were floating some dipshit nonsense about using generative AI to "solve homelessness"

this hell state really will just waste money on snake oil tech shit instead of restructuring the housing system
how about no

bumping this again for your daily reminder of california being a hellstate, I only trust lawyers to sue the fuck out of the state for doing things like this at this point rather than the governor to see it's a stupid idea to just pass things that will make identity theft easier

do also remember to keep an eye on house for kosa since, again, schumer's loser ass is still trying to force it being brought to the floor (even though house has said they don't have any interest in doing that) with "no further changes" which really means they're less likely to (maga mike wants it to have more censorship obvs)

they go back into session on monday

bad news, to the shock of no one, newsom signed SB 976 because of course he did, fucking hack
how about no
it won't go into effect until 2027, and of course it won't be his problem since he'll be long out of office
how about no

so I guess at this point it's just a wait and see for how the courts will react to it and if anyone is gonna sue/contest it

otoh people like denise and netchoice and the aclu are very very aware of these things going on, so, there will be challenges
how about no

oh, sorry to resurrect this also, but upside: newsom did veto ab 1949, so it's not a total hopeless defeat, there was successful pushback on A LOT of censorship bills in california, some that denise talked about too on dreamwidth!
