Today's dinner was going to an international restaurant so parents could eat grilled fish steak. At least I got a yuzu carbonara, that's Japanese... Ish!
I'm sorry your parents are so limited in their food choices.
Yeah. My mother was like... Why didn't you eat any udon and ramen at the buffet yesterday?
Dude, it's a 100 dollars buffet. That's not what you eat at a hundred bucks buffet.

it's Mt Fuji from Tokyo!
It really is amazing how big that mountain is
sucks about the food tho
What an amazing city, and then that gorgeous mountain rising above it. Just breathtaking!
mikomitears: Travel how to live. What beauty. Hoping for some real Japanese cuisine soon for them.
.................. random stranger to Seph's plurk commenting to my comment. Weird.
I'm going to Greece next year and one of the things I'm looking forward to most (aside from all of it) is the food, because real Greek food
why your parents would go there and not eat the food is beyond me
Stunning pictures! But also man, sorry about the food! Sneak away and at least hit up a cafe!
Hopefully they ease up on the food at least a little bit soon.

if you're walking a lot of places, you're getting good exercise, too, it's totally okay to just Eat Food for a couple days on
vacation
I'd love to go to Japan. but my fav part of traveling anywhere is trying local food
god, right? Eating local food, trying new things, that's a HUGE part of the appeal of traveling
also just. again. this is SUCH disordered eating that from a medical pov it WORRIES me. (not you, you're great)
mikomitears: even more random is that looks like a bot that I've never seen
siriuslydementd: omg, Greek food! That is great! And it's actually one of the foods that my parents totally accept.... Cause. Lots of chicken breast everywhere.
justplainchy: lol... I'm near 40. I'm 100% sure my parents would have a heart attack if I told them I'm going to the convenience store half a block away without them. Only time we separate is in a mall... And usually for less than an hour.
But part of that is because we're in a country that they don't know the language of and not everyone has a data plan.
shinra_dog: were actually... Not walking a lot of places. All our feet hurt. XD but mom has plantar fasciitis so even more so, so we're trying to minimize the amount of walking (even though it's still 10-20k steps daily. It's not the calories they're afraid of, but the cholesterol and simple blood sugars/glycemic index.
Fuzzytale: me tooooo. Why I'm.... Still hoping for looking for places that serves things they can eat while I can try real cuisine.
komikbookgeek: it's been a struggle for over a decade. Lol. It's less pronounced when we're not in Japan where... You know. Everything is against their very very specific diet.
One interesting thing though. I wanted to add chicken to my carbonara yesterday.... They have no such options. They were very very confused when I asked. And wanted me to order a carbonara + a main course chicken breast.
I'm like... Yeah I don't need that much. Gave up on it.
oof plantar fasciitis sucks, can attest
shinra_dog: yeah. We all have some form of pain to start, so not super walking active.
man, I hated when I had plantar fasciitis, it was awful
Fuzzytale: yeah, it
hurts. I'm recovering from half of it, so we do understand that we don't do unnecessary walking unless we have a destination. But
really limits things
plantar fascitis is a PAIN.
But yeah I... just. as a medical professional (not a nurse, not a dietitian, CNA w/nutritional training) and someone who has dealt with various disordered eating patterns, I am worried about the three of you, and would like to talk about it with you after you get back and settled. if you want.
if you want me to shut up,
plantar fasciitis is truly so evil
komikbookgeek: lol, you're preaching to the choir unfortunately. Unfortunately my mother is the type who doesn't
listen, unless someone on the radio says it, because obviously they are so educated and right.
I'm in the medical profession too though not in nutrition.
I just don't want to overstep, we're new to each other
komikbookgeek: Oh, no, it's completely fine. And I wouldn't mind talking about this at all although it might end up with me ranting more than anything. Lol.
If seafood and eggs are both things you eat, you should probably try chawanmushi (fish custard)
Bugly42: what is this and where can I find this?
It's a common steamed custard dish in Japan.
komikbookgeek: yeah, it's a crazy diet she's on. She read about Zone diet and treats that as her Bible. And then went extremist.
Bugly42: oooooh. Will try to look for this... Ohhhh, wait, I think I know what you're talking about. It's the steamed egg dish, with either seafood broth or seafood inside? I recall those from AYCE Japanese places back home.
Steamed egg custard flavored with both broth and usually shrimp meat or other fish.
I can't imagine going to a region and not looking for regional cuisine.
I am hoping I get to try some fresh olives
siriuslydementd: I know they taught us how to taste olive oil in Greece! Olives is not my thigh, but olive oil is!
apparently we're going to a place with really good olive oil
