I either underestimated it the first time, familiarity has set in, or I'm seeing details I overlooked the first time, but this book is really good
I'm rereading it because I've acquired the other five books in the set, and I'm glad i did
It's so good, so pleasing, so easy to read. Calming
They're short with large front, simple. I assume they're kids books, but it gives new meaning to Easy Reads
The only saving grace Sarah Maas had was "brainless reading," but The Seventh Tower shows her how it really should be done, but even then this isn't brainless
It's simple to read yet still jam-packed with goodies, om nom nom
My God what was i on the first time?
Imagine if this wasn't a kids book and had full reign to be fleshed out and complete?
This screams for a televised adaption
It staggers me sometimes to see some people's artistic interpretation of what a book critter looks like

does this make you think of this?
It made me think of something like Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon, but with seal flippers instead of legs and a narwhal's horn instead of wings
Hohojvojvohv that's so cute
"let's give the land-adapted Leopard Seal Narwhal a series of double chins for some reason"
Onto book two. I love the biology. It's like Dinotopia, so many critters
Ebbit is so cool ;~; WHY IS SUSHIN SUCH A FUCKING DICKHEAD
Oh damn you're flying. Not that I'm surprised, this book is the printed equivalent of meringue
Garth Nix does and amazing job of making you like or not like people based on next to no information
Seriously you make this into a cartoon/anime and then market the beastmaker card game for mobile and TTG???? THE MOOOONEEEEY
Yeah it reminds me of a fusion of Avatar TLA, Made in Abyss, and then my own book >>; /ego
YES! Beastmaker is so cool
Look, LISTEN. This was a Lucasfilm property, which means DISNEY HAS IT
Market that shit man! Toys, games, cartoons!
OIC the Empress is questionably a bitch too
how dare you play a game with a child
lmfao "Excellent! I'm sure you'll have lots of fun!!!' Ebbit is SO COOL
Unfortunately the one downside is, the brevity of the kid's book means sparse information
Cool uncle Ebbitt who commands his spiritshadow to KILL when you come visit
"Great Uncle is a bit.... well he's not exactly normal."
Jesus. When Tal does finally manage to get back, the first thing Ebbitt brings up to him is that he hasn't bothered to come by to see him in weeks
"I haven't been to see you because I FELL OFF THE RED TOWER!"
"Tell me everything!" Is Ebbitt's response, not Tal's well being. "This is the most excitement I've had in years!"
I like Tal's shadowguard, despite it never having said anything
I like when it turns into a Dattu, as if saying "i don't think this is a very good idea..."
"You will take me back to the castle at once! ........ Um... please?" /knocks him unconscious and drags him along
Ah Milla, the worst character
Oh shit. Oh shit! A nice little tweest
Also, I might not like Milla but her skill is crazy
Nice! What did you think?
The selski and merwin are critters i hope to make in a book some day
Fantastic >:3 I'm onto the Shield Maiden's HQ now
I'm glad. Icecarls have no chill (see what i did there). They are eager to Give You To The Ice
"The people who made this Castle thought of everything... even these quite fascinating water spiders, about so big" *as this motherfucker spreads his arms out as far as they would go
Yeah Ebbitt is lowkey the best
Ebbitt is great. During all this horror he stops to comment how the ancient creator's devices were manipulated to do the opposite of what they were intended
Holy shit, damn. Dropping sad, sad hints of Ebbitts lonely past. I NEED IT. this series is hobbled, it cries for more detail
That's what this series excels at, dropping the barest hint, the slightest taste of further detail, but withholding it for the sake of brevity. The author knows it, he has it, but it's only hinted at
There's an off-handed comment that the Chosen live long lives, prolonged by Sunstone magics
But only later on do we see Ebbitt in the Mausoleum scene, looking around and being distracted by graves of people he once knew
If this was made into a tv show it would work great with 90's or Sci-Fy production quality, like Buffy The Vampire Slayer or Farscape

best character
the CGI or even budget special effects for the monsters is too much and in drawings you can really emphasize the colors and contrast when they're in the darkness etc.
Live action is too much filter
hahah where Milla jokes about having to do the jump again
My one complaint is that she's too cold
Even after two books she's ready to take her sunstone and just fuck off
There's little or no connection
The Icecarls simply giving their sick and elderly To The Ice is crazy
Oh Milla you so cray cray
I love her not being scared of nightmares because she just goes into deeper sleep instead
The Hall Of Nightmares scene is wild
She straight up says 'no' to the fucking shadow monster horror guy and calls in her own spooky creepy mommy squad on his ass
awww ;; saying goodbye to his pikachu shadow squirrel T_T
Babe do you have books 4-6?
I'm onto book 3 -- is this past the part that you were "WHAT A TWIST"-ing over?
free all the spirits in Aenir
Again, not surprising-- it's the easiest thing I've ever read. Maas being simple but i periodically had to stop to rage
You blew past me. They only just lied down in the coffins in the Mausoleum
Yeah the twist was his father having been in the Pit
Book 3 was the BEST BAR NONE YOU WILL LOVE IT SO MUCH
Milla's still a pain in the ass but a lot of things were huge improvements and it moves super fast
Oh boy. I'm glad you like it
The first two are like a 7/10 there's parts that are good but in general I wouldn't be like "ermahgawsh people READ THIS

"
3 is 9.9/10 everything fantasy genre is meant to be, the characterization even improves, the plot is GREAT it's sooooo goood aaaahhhh
Wow, I'm shocked you didn't dive into 4
YESSSSSS the incorporation of the Beastmaker monsters
This is what Made In Abyss should have been, the messing around with strange and weird critters
I thought the answer to the first riddle was a tree?
Sublime. Superb. Excellent
God, super MiA vibes. Even down to the lost children and some never coming back
YES now that's what I'm talking about! Tal finally winning and being a bad-absolute-ass
Christine you are so right, the absolute jump in quality is nuts
It wasn't even the Hazror fight, it was the questions Tal thinks afterwards, the implications on how many Chosen kids could have been drawn into the layer and if possibly it was the "Codex" leading them there
Yeeeeeeeeesssssss also the storm shepherds I LOVE THEM
They're so goofy and funny and Milla reminds me of a pain in the ass viking Ari missing all your Marigold Spacegirl genki traits
God the finding the legendary boat of Gaia herself being in the possession of a lizard
100% what we wanted/needed/craved of MIA
"You still have to choose who to die!"
"Shut up!"
They think they're whispering lol
Tals still kind of dumb but it's been a month of his world views shattering so
Tal is actually my favorite
He's a good main. Shows huge growth too
I will admit my bias, though. I am slightly disappointed
This went in a direction more CS Lewis-y fantasy
When they encountered a flesh-and-blood Cavernmouth i actually salivated: i craved a pure biologically-inspired fantasy
But then it leaned in a fanciful direction of elementals, talking lakes, and Reepicheep reptiles
>> I... I loved Zicka so fucking much I thought you would too but I also unironically adore Reepicheep soooooooooo
No no, it's not like that
but it isn't my preferred direction, it's not what I thought it would be
I should have gotten the hint it was going to be more fanciful when the Spiritshadows/Shadowguards are sentient, like even the Dattu
it tells of Lewis-esque fantasy
but I got a taste of raw biology and that's what I thought it would dominantly be
