Put 2 pieces of bread in the toaster oven this morning. Dog wanted to be let out. Forgot about toast and went back to bed. Minutes pass, smell smoke, think it’s just the heater. Suddenly the smoke detectors start going off, and then my home security system starts shouting out in its robot voice “FIRE DETECTED. FIRE DETECTED. FIRE DETECTED. FIRE DETECTED.”
I completely memory hole that I was making toast. I think maybe the heater is on fire. There is smoke everywhere but I don’t see anything on fire. Alarms are blaring, I call 911, fire dept is on its way. Gen gets up and after a couple minutes pinpoints the problem and turns the toaster oven off.
Anyway, fire dept came and left, I’m sure they thought I’m a moron. Feeling very stupid right now.

Fire dept was ready to go too, they were in their gear and had fire axes in hand
I feel bad because my step dad was a fire fighter and so I know they all had to drop whatever they were doing and suit up in a mad dash

I mean yeah but better a false alarm then not being canned when you are needed
At least I know all the smoke detectors in my house are working.
