If you’re not familiar with dwarf fortress, you can tell your dwarves what you want them to do, but can’t control them directly. You start with 7 dwarves and need to build a home, but there are tons of ways that you can all die and your fort fail (we call that ‘fun’). There’s a lot more, but I’ll explain as I go
Quick overview of world generation, I have it set for 100 years, so the game will create 100 years of history before I take over, including wars, trade, the rise and fall of civilizations and settlements. In my large world with a lot of civilizations, that’s about 230,000 events and 33,000 historical figures.
