Brody's surgery went well! He's on day 2 of recovery and he has been an emotional old man about it
The mass in his thigh weighed 3 WHOLE DAMN POUNDS.
Hoooooly shit imagine 3 pounds of excess nonsense in one leg
No wonder he tore a ligament
So he's eating and drinking, still very much a food-motivated doggo
It was raining today so we set him up under the back porch with a blanket for his bald chicken leg and he just watched the rain most of today
My dad's been sleeping downstairs in case he needs to help Brody at all
He did wake up last night and was like screaming kind of whines
We assume it's pain related, it wasn't his normal "let me outside" whining
His leg is still very sore and it takes about 2 of us to pick him up to stand
Even shedding 3 pounds, he's still a 70lb doge
He can hobble on the leg despite the still torn ligament and the soreness from the surgery so as long as it stays clean and he keeps resting we should be okay with some time
I'll just reuse this plurk for any other updates so I don't feel like I'm repeating myself
awww poor pupper. glad his surgery went well though. here's hoping he has a smooth recovery
He's realized he's getting spoiled lol and is like actually milking it
The drain gets removed tomorrow and they're gonna check how it's healing when we go and do any medicine adjustments if need be
Today he walked around the house 5 times, much to my dad's dismay. We didn't want him sitting in the mud so any time he tried to consider it my dad would make him get up so they just kept circling the house until we made him just come back inside
too smart for his own good
Truly! I'd say he learned it from the cats
Drain removal went well! They did give us some more medicine to avoid infection after we explained his earnest for sitting in mud. But he's recovering well so far and they didn't see any issues during the visit. Not sure when the next vet check will be, I think we're mildly playing it by ear
But the less visits, the better
They're estimating if he continues recovering as well as he has, he'll be ready for the next surgery to fix the torn ligament by February or March
But there's also a chance that with the mass removed it might just heal on its own?? We'll see. It'd be nice if he doesn't have to do another surgery
here's hoping! as long as he's careful with his leg, it might mend on its own. and I'm assuming he's a pretty lazy dog in his old age.
Yeah, he's a very lazy boy and always has been despite being a type of retriever lol
