As in you didn't like the movie NOW or you used to not like the musical, or reasonably, you don't like the book?

I straight up went into this movie with excitement, my mom did too. I've read the book, I saw the production in Toronto a couple of years ago, the soundtrack is great - and everyone raved about the movie

what was it you didn't like?

It's really long and drawn out, which doesn't help, and some of the song mixings especially the very first one where Ariana's vocals are so mismatched to the chorus I was like oh no.

Every scene was like 2-3 minutes too long

I preferred Ariana's acting to her singing

And Erivo's singing to her acting

I liked Popular and Defying Gravity but the other songs were kind of a miss for me

I'm really surprised I didn't like it and this does not bode well for what will probably be a grueling awards season for mom and I to indulge in

the length seems to be a common complaint

I'll be honest, I was so enamored, I could have had it be LONGER cause I wanted all the deleted scenes they've been showing

I'm glad for people if they enjoyed it, I really thought I would

are you two planning to watch all the nominees again?

you'll have to give me your thoughts on that Emilia Perez? I think

Yep we are, as many as we can get our hands on. They don't get announced for two weeks, but we knew this was gonna be nominated for one thing or another

I've been hearing a lot about Emilia Perez, so I'm sure it'll be nominated

But the list that people are predicting is mostly movies that we haven't heard of which usually means it's a weird year

I'm actually expecting this to mostly get nods for makeup and costuming and visual effects and hold the more prominent categories back for part two

That seems to be how the award shows roll for films that are part of a set length series

So this award season may be fine for you

yeah I thought it was mostly meh

but I've never read the book nor seen the musical

      yubsie:

Really depends - now when it comes to the costuming? They did do a fantastic job there, same with the set design. But it's been a very slow movie year in general, there's not a ton of movies to choose from for the big awards I feel so it'll likely get nominations but not win

hellglass: I guess it's one of those movies that you either really connect with it or don't, but a lot of people definitely did.

I loved the play when I saw it, so I was hyped for this. Kind of a bummer there.

Other movies we saw this year already that will get nods, Deadpool might get a technical nod and we saw that one, as well as Dune 2 which man, Dune is not for me. We only went to see it because we were like 'this is awards fodder and we're gonna have to see it anyway'

^ see also how I feel when there's a new Avatar movie

We get the nominations list on the 19th and then mom and I get to work for six weeks
