It sure sounds that way

admittedly, there have long long looong been (admittedly dismissive) claims that a lot of this kind of stuff is deliberately sort of soft-planned (not staged or anything, just sort of nudged towards) for the new year tournaments and seasons because that's what drives the tv audiences

but this kind of shit happens off season, too

so who knows

oh yeah I wouldn't be shocked, but now that all the stables have youtube channels where they can be more "real," the tv audience manufacturing is harder to keep up

I follow Isegahama, they just had him talking at the Meiji dedication ceremony about how he wanted to keep going now that he's gotten his 10 Emperor's cup wins

but honestly focusing on him has really shafted Atamifuji and Midorifuji, they don't get the training they deserve

Atamifuji isn't one of my fan faves but he was touted as being as talented as Onosato. Onosato is an ozeki already, Atamifuji is floundering

(otoh I love Midorifuji as much as I love Ura and Tobizaru, they're good boys)
