A few interesting surprises in there - I didn't think we see nominations for The Apprentice, due to its controversial nature, it had been pretty much left out of all the other awards talk so that was a surprise

(I haven't seen it, I can't comment)

The Substance has been gaining momentum since Demi Moore's win at the Golden Globes, which helped secure it a Best Picture nod

No nod to Deadpool & Wolverine in the visual effects department which is a total surprise for what was one of the biggest movies of the year

They definitely didn't spread the awards around this year - with only 35 feature length films to watch, it's a very thin year indeed

We're used to it being about 50

Way more nominations for Nosferatu than I expected

And props to the animation breaking out of the animation category

The Wild Robot has nominations in a few categories and I am glad to see it

Flow also being considered for international feature is a pleasant surprise

(It won't get it, I suspect it will go to Emelia Perez)

Wicked got a ton of nominations - but it's likely to pick up a couple of technical awards when held up to Emilia Perez and The Brutalist

Based on how the awards season has been faring

Surprised we didn't see Daniel Craig nominated for Queer

Same with Denzel Washington from what I hear - although we'll still be forced to sit through Gladiator II so in the end

And it looks like our "problem" category this time around will be the documentary features unless sometime in the next six weeks they start becoming available to us

They're also all heavy subject matter

That's not the best

As a viewer - to make a documentary it's totally fine

We could get this done real slow, one movie a day and be done in time, that's how few movies there are

Course we don't do that around here, it's usually 2-3 a day until we're all set

And we start tomorrow!

Oh, and going into this the only movies we've seen so far is Dune: Part Two and Wicked.

33 movies to go (and three shorts compilations when the theatre releases the dates for those)

I didn't like either Dune or Wicked so they're not my choice for best picture anyway so I am ready to be wowed
