Our eggs are sold in packs of 6 or 10. There was one package of 12 (weird) and then a 30 pack in white and brown. I’m happy to ship if you pay postage.

Bird flu is a global health problem according to the CDC. It is widespread in wild birds and sporadic in poultry and cows. Very much not just a US problem.

The EU probably has more systems in place to monitor and detect bird flu, esp since the US has shut those down right now.

Eggs at my supermarket yesterday were $8 for a dozen and very few

^^ probably true and it will only get worse. However, let's not pretend the bird flu only exists in the US.

the problem is the CDC is not allowed to disclose any more information to the public... so egg farmers are also kind of in chaos

Chestnut: It does not only affects the US; the difference is that those "red tapes" and overseeing agencies exist for a reason. Cutting them mean outbreaks are not caught as quickly, and cannot be fought as effectively.

Just think of COVID: the whole world was affected, yet the US managed to get a death rate per capita along those of developing countries. Why? Cause it wasn't fought as strongly as it could have.

Then, consider that bird flu is always one mutation away from becoming a deadly human fu, it's another reason to clamp down quick and hard on it. Not doing so can have serious consequences.

I understand completely. Things are going to get bad, no disputing that. However bird flu is a global problem, not just a US problem as stated

Chestnut: I think by saying “it’s just a US thing” she meant the current prices on eggs due to the US bird flu outbreaks right now, not that bird flu isn’t an issue in Europe in general. This was a continuation from another plurk.
Chestnut: oh no, definitely not saying that birdflu is only a US problem, but the exorbitant egg prices are. These are our normal prices for a long time now. We do have birdflu here but they contain it as best as they can

I guess I was confused by "apparently it’s just a US thing"
Swamp_Daddy: then you don’t get none!

I think it hits poultry farmers here harder as they are all crammed in those giant coops
LillyLalonde: probably. We have those here too unfortunately but we also have a lot of free range chickens
