The Girl With the Needle is Denmark's submission to the Oscars, nominated for best International Feature Film and was pretty good

Shot in black and white, the aesthetic was pleasantly creepy, building and building until the criminal reveal and the unravelling of everything so far and it's loosely based on a true story so that's interesting

It can be a little visceral but overall it was pretty good.

I think I liked Emilia Perez's story more than this one, but it wasn't a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination.

A Real Pain is about a pair of cousins that take a Holocaust memorial tour to reconnect with each other and their roots and it's kind of a soft comedy, it's not overly sombre except for when they're touring the concentration camp

Kieren Culkin is nominated for best supporting actor - again, strange choice to consider he's not the leading man but I guess it's Eisenberg's film so

His character is brash, conflicting and a royal pain in the ass, you hate him because you want to and in that regard he did a fantastic job

The open ended ending was a bit disappointing in that we both had different predictions for what would happen and the answer was neither

All in all, it was actually a surprisingly good watch
