I'm guessing several people got a 0 on their assignments and complained and this was the response to that

I didn't use AI and as a teacher myself I'm adamantly against its use for students unless it's a class specifically teaching how to use the tech

it's insane how people continue to think they can get away with using AI for their schoolwork

it is so funny to me when people try to use AI to do their grad school work, that's basically just admitting you don't have the skills required for your field and don't want to acquire them

It's a class of 20 and it was mentioned that about 4 were caught

Yeah, it's ... not a good look. This is a literature class, it's only at 200 level

But a lot of my classmates are going into it for uni (it's part of an associate's program at the community college)

Like if you can't write a 1000 word essay how do you expect to write your thesis later?

I guarantee a lot of them are planning to go to UVA because the VA community colleges slide you into basically any VA uni you want so long as your GPA hits a certain mark

Apparently if you're caught, it goes on your official transcript. Some teachers will let you turn in the assignment again for a grade higher than 0, but the note on your transcript doesn't budge

no, i take that back. it takes a conscious thought to plagiarize. there is no thought in using AI to write your essay

AI plagiarizes for you, it got its words somewhere and they were never yours. So I do agree, it's far less thought to do

yeah. like, at least if you plagiarized, you made the effort to find something to plagiarize. you shouldn't be rewarded for that, but at least you didn't have AI plagiarize (badly) for you
