8 MONTHS??!! WHERE HAVE I BEEN
spacemoth IDK WHEN YOU WAKE UP BUT LOOK AT THIS WHEN U DO
GOOD TIMING I've got a few minutes before I clock in and enter no video zone
Cassevery part of the raph resurrection chapter is torment
WHY IS RAPH LITERALLY THE KINDEST AND MOST WARM AND WONDERFUL SOUL
i started re-reading again too

i fucking love that chapter so much
rise raph is such an incredible character wheeze
IT'S BECAUSE RAPH ALWAYS HAS THE PASSION FOR LOVE OF HIS FAMILY
AND NOW HE'S FINALLY BEEN ALLOWED TO SHOW THAT OPENLY
RATHER THAN BE REPRESSED AND RESENTFUL
AND DANI YOU FUCKIN GET IT SO GOOD I'M SO FORTUNATE TO GET TO PLAY WITH UR RAPH
im glad we all stand upon the raph characterization soapbox together
cass reread complete I'm crying
/puts my hands around donnie
i love this fucking turtle
he's a good (questionable) guy
he's arguably trying to do good but more importantly he's INTERESTING and checks all my boxes for fun and challenging writing
writing him helps me work out my writing muscles

i still get to learn when writing him. LOVE IT
its good its so very good
i end up abandoning a lot of half-written tags for him
i have like. a personal vendetta against the whole "uwu donnie is so insecure and sad (bc hes autistic lol)" trope that some of the fandom have pushed onto him because it's. DEEPLY INSULTING LMAO but also just plain bad writing
that also means i sometimes write him as TOO cold/calculating/etc because i overcompensate
so whenever im writing a tag and I'm like hmm.....i dunno...... i end up walking away from it for a day and then end up deleting it to start over bc i was right and it was not good
does donnie have the capacity for great evil. yes. bc that is kinda funny to me. BUT ALSO, he does not enjoy seeing ppl in pain and does genuinely believe science (including his own work) is supposed to help ppl and improve lives (mostly, like 96% of it)
it's tough bc sometimes donnie is SO emotional and sometimes he's so cold/uncaring and it looks really difficult to toe that line lmfao
i think you do amazing i could never
honestly tho it's like throwing darts blindfolded. is donnie going to have a big feeling about this. nobody knows
he does but he's not sharing bc the flowchart has 7754335672359005312588 steps
even leo like "what the fuck" most of the time
HONESTLY. april like u just gotta get down to brass tacks with that lil fucker
I'm enjoying having donnie be like DON'T YOU THREE THINK IT'S MESSED UP THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SACRIFICE YOURSELVES bc one day there will be an uno reverse card played in the form of "you mean how you sacrifice yourself for them" and donnie will
"one day"
I'm back here thinking about sacrifice
i love it bc the way they sacrifice is all different
raph uses his whole body; if anybody is the poster boy for sacrifice it's him. hit him with a train, stab him through the heart, whatever; so long as his ppl are ok it's worth it
but OF COURSE the one he struggles with the most is when splinter told them to go
and essentially forced raph to sacrifice his ideals of not leaving anybody he loves behind
no wonder he was spiraling down in the woods
right
like his whole way of thinking shaken to the core
its not like raph changed his mind at that moment either; he just had to kill the loudest part of his conscience, and then grapple with that death until it came back
in the movie, raph being ready to leave once he saw they were getting their asses beat and their dad was down, is a DIRECT RESULT of having to make that decision before
do i think he would've stayed to be stubborn if he hadn't had to leave their dad before? no, i just think it wouldn't have occurred to him
he and donnie obviously coordinated the escape pod thing. he knew donnie had them and he knew how to use them
BECAUSE raph had to grab his brothers and run, leaving his dad and draxum to die, he got more observant and strategic, even if he wasn't the "official" leader
that was his way of coping with that death of his ideals; improvement and preparation
(also find it funny that raph is still the one giving orders and having them obeyed despite not being the official leader; no leader necessary they are a team truther)
and another thing that doesn't get covered in the movie
he gets jokey haha anxious or scared in the show sometimes, but that finale rockets him right into the "perpetual terror" category and THAT POOR BOY NEVER RECOVERED
raph said i never have to leave anyone behind if i get to be the special boy who manually activates my escape pod

(also a team truther tbh)
raph said maybe I'm not the leader but i am the biggest brother, the one who is the biggest
the hamatos are just layer on layer of that one comic where ppl keep wrapping around each other trying to take the bullet for each other
AND THIS IS WHY I HAVE A PROBLEM with leo sacrificing himself is sometimes viewed as "growing up" or like, in general, a GOOD thing or otherwise morally correct thing
do i think it was a BAD thing??? like leo was BAD to sacrifice himself? no dawg
it just IS. leo saw a problem that needed an IMMEDIATE solution, and with what he had available to him he came up with that solution
the solution resulting in his death is just an unhappy consequence

im eating your thoughts
i do find it ironic that the "listen to your team" part of the "its not about you" lesson didn't make the final decision cut at the end there. its VERY VERY INTERESTING as a writer to pull apart that reasoning and try to reverse-engineer the character motivations
raph was begging leo not to go, not to do this and leo laughed him off and did what he wanted (needed) to do anyway, which is exactly what he did in the beginning that lost the key only the motivations are the EXACT OPPOSITE
at the beginning he was scared and selfish to how detriment, and now he's brave and selfless to his detriment
OH HOW THE COOKIES CRAMBLE
THE RESULT TO LOOK AT THO is that leo DID succeed. whether he died or lived, krang prime was in the prison dimension and their ship was FUCKED up
the "reward" for him making that decision was a very obvious and tangible win; world saved, no (other) brothers dead
UNFORTUNATELY that just enforces that sacrificial mindset
in the bad future, everybody dies; at least 2 are by sacrifice on screen, but we can safely assume more are sacrifice deaths. there isn't a reward for their sacrifice, unless you consider casey escaping and helping save another timeline to be that reward
if the boys in main timeline were to pull that apart, they would probably all have very different feelings about it
FCUKED UP AND BUILT IN GENERATIONAL
what if love and sacrifice were comorbid conditions. what if your family continued cycling through them like a curse no matter how hard you tried to steer away from that end and they kept taking away the wrong lessons,

what if they lived the kind of lives that didn't allow for the separation of love and sacrifice
u hate to see it. i lie i love to see it
i enjoy rattling them around to see what complexes fall out
shake them like a surprise box except every prize is trauma
truly
and then leo went to turtlepile in raphs room bc it was just a very bad nightmare tHE END
