I THINK luckily, my teacher is humoring me enough that I'm getting away with most of my more annoying student habits
So we are supposed to analyze a poem from the early 17th century
And like write an essay because it's always an essay
And it's supposed to use literary theories but we can choose
So I picked Ben Jonson's " To the Memory of My Beloved, The Author, Mr. William Shakespeare, And What He Hath Left Us"
And ... okay. I guess it's Biographical criticism cause it certainly isn't feminist
All I want to do after doing the initial biographical analysis is just
Compare Jonson's poem of Shakespeare to Griswold's obituary of Poe
THEY HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON not country or time period or other stuff but like
IT'S SO FUNNY TO Meeeeeeeeeeeeee
you know god forbid I gain any interest in the classes I'm studying because it just becomes this god forsaken rabbit hole that I try to drag my teachers into
If I do a comparative essay between Jonson and Griswold, the point of literary theory kinda goes out the window a little
And I'm trying to both tie in that theme that I'm suddenly obsessed with and the biographical criticism I'm supposed to be writing about
Things I didn't know about Jonson but now do because of this assignment
He murdered someone and got a Free Out Of Jail card because he knew Latin
MOTHER FFFFFFFFFffffffker
I mean, Smart. But also yikes.......
Is Jonson more morally correct than Griswold
I HAVE MANY QUESTIONS COMPARING THESE TWO lunatics
Just one primarily praises for the sake of immortalizing their subject, and the other is telling literal weird af lies to tarnish their subject (which instead just makes them 10000 times more fascinating and has the opposite effect)
Anyways, it's a tiny essay and I have too many OpInIoNs for the size of the assignment and my brain is buzzing
I should veg and just play sims
