but the word "gundam" isn't Japanese

it's English

a gundam is a Gun of Freedam[sic]

it's a portmanteau, spelling changed so it will not only mean Freedom Gun but also Gun That Holds Things Back Like A Dam

it is STARTLINGLY OBVIOUS now that I know it

but it never once occurred to me

and I find it INCREDIBLY CURSED
