So I get what they were going for but I can see why this is a divisive game.
So for those of you playing at home Blue Prince is a game where a teenager inherits his great-uncle's estate on the condition that he can find the 46th room in his great-uncle's 45-room mansion.
There are puzzles of varying difficulty and then there's the other central mechanic, where the rooms in the house reset every night and the next morning you have to draft (create) new rooms to explore the house. There is considerable RNG involved.
There's a jigsaw puzzle plot that you find out from letters and notes and such as you progress through the mansion.
Overall I like it and find the story interesting (even though I'm...pretty sure I get what happened after only finding about half of the specific lore drops.)
The art style is good, the game works well, and the puzzles are either intuitive or FUCKING EVIL, which is, you know, normal for a puzzle game.
I'm...a little tired of accidentally boxing myself in or trying to get certain combinations of items and rooms so I can accomplish specific things.
There is A LOT you can do to mitigate the room RNG, and you get more ability to do so as the game progresses but
luck is just not on your side
PLEASE, GAME, I JUST WANT TO [spoiler for puzzle] AND I HAVE THE TOOL PLEASE GIVE ME THE ROOM.
Your items and cash ALSO reset after each day in game
You can make it so that you're gaining some currency at the start of each day, but as far as I have seen there are two ways to save something overnight
that is, save an item/tool overnight
which is very Guess I'll Just Die sometimes
I mean this is part of the game, otherwise it would be maybe a three hour puzzle game (I would also enjoy that game) but there wouldn't be anything particularly unique about it.
Overall: I like it, but I do want to shake it by the lapels until certain rooms fall out
i have a coworker literally praising it to me right now
so it was funny to tab over to plurk and see this
I do recommend it but yeah
Thirding the rec. it is wonderful but the rogue-like part of it can be frustrating.
the puzzle and story are AMAZING, the roguelike...just give yourself time
