so for those of you not playing at home

the key for the vault was in lost and found

for Reasons I had not entered lost and found until I found out from an in-game source that it had the vault key in it

I was, at the time, in Security

I then tried to make either 1) the coat check or 2) the vault

(coat check lets you keep items overnight.)

because there was no point going back and getting the key if I couldn't save or use it

so the route was actually more like this
